“Reconciliation is the solution to all the issues of Tamil Community”

Attending as the Chief Guest of the 10th annual Conference of the Democratic Workers Union of Jaffna University, Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda stated that National Reconciliation should be maintained strongly to solve all the issues of the Tamil community in the country.

Expressing further views, the Minister stated that he took arms to win the rights of the Tamil people and after the Indo-Lanka pact he joined the democratic stream and represented parliament to strengthen the reconciliation and made various attempts to provide solutions to the issues faced by the Tamil Community. These attempts have become fruitful and he is happy that the Democratic Workers Union of the University of Jaffna has realized this fact and acted accordingly.

Attending the event the Vice Chancellor of Jaffna University Prof. Patkunarajah stated that among the politicians in the North, Minister Douglas Devananda is a politician with humanity who has identified the grievances of the people of the North acts with a dedication to build the future and economy of the people and make use of every opportunity for the betterment and the prosperity of the people.

The professor also said that the Minister has taken measures to remove all the obstacles in raising the standard of education of Tamil children and carried out various programmes to generate employment opportunities for the youth in the North.

The Professor added that the Tamil Community should understand that among the politicians who act to solve the issues of the Tamil Community, Minister Douglas Devananda is a leading character in this process.

Many officials of the Academic and non-academic staff and lecturers and the Professors of Jaffna University attended this event.
