Red Alert for Nellie District:
A team of 90 members of Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force has been put on standby in Nellai while the southern districts including Nellai have been on red alert. Two teams with state-of-the-art equipment carry out surveillance in the metropolitan area and one team of soldiers in the foothills of the Western Ghats.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in some places including the Western Ghats, the Meteorological Department said.
PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT FLOOD DAMAGE:
A red alert warning has also been issued by the State Research Center for southern districts including Nellai. In this situation, the Nellai district administration is consulting with all departmental officials and taking precautionary measures to prevent rain and flood damage.
Already, the public has been banned from visiting the tourist spots in the forest areas including Manimuthar Falls, Kalakkadu Thalayanai, Mancholai, Papanasam, Agasthyar Falls and Nambi Kovil.
The district administration informed that this ban will remain in force until further orders. There is also a possibility of flash floods in rivers and waterfalls in the Western Ghats.
The district administration has issued instructions to the public not to go into the water bodies of rivers including Tamirabarani River, Kadana River, Chittaur, Nambiaru, Hanuman River and ponds.
Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force on standby:
In this situation, a team of 90 people under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Muthukrishnan from Tamil Nadu Disaster Relief Force has been called to Nelli to participate in the rescue work in the areas affected by rain and flood.
The district administration has instructed the rescuers who have come with the latest equipment such as high-speed piper boats, state-of-the-art cameras, tree surgery machines, generators and medical equipment to monitor the people affected by the floods and have been divided into three groups to carry out the monitoring work.
Accordingly, the Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force has conducted an inspection of the flood-affected areas in Nellai district and one team of officers with all types of equipment has been kept ready at the foothills of the Western Ghats and two other teams have been kept ready in Nellai metropolitan areas.
Arrangements have also been made for teams in the metropolitan area to go to the affected areas as soon as information about the damage is received.
Disaster Control Center helpline numbers have also been kept ready by the district administration for the public to contact. Apart from the Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force, disaster trained personnel from police and fire departments have also been prepared. The district administration and revenue department officials are also closely monitoring the flood affected and rain affected areas.
