Chennai D. Nagar:
D. Nagar, the largest and most important commercial area in Chennai, is a congested area. Now the traffic has been diverted for metro rail works.
In this situation, the traffic has been diverted for another year due to the construction of a flyover on Usman Road.
Traffic Change:
In particular, vehicles going from North Osman Road to D. Nagar Bus Station are completely prohibited from passing through the Osman Road Bridge.
Vulnerable public:
Allegations have arisen that the people of D. Nagar are suffering day by day due to these two traffic changes.
Also many street dwellers are unable to come out due to these improper alternative plans.
Especially the residents of Rangasamy Street, Mahalakshmi Street, Motilal Street, Mangesha Street, Venkatesan Street, Sarojini Street, Vinjala Subramanian Street, Ramanathan Street, Natesan Street, Thandapani Street have said that they are struggling to cope with this traffic change.
Residents of the area have said that, “No vehicles can enter these areas even for emergencies. It is a big drawback that proper notice board and police are not there to control the traffic jam.
We are in a difficult situation where residents cannot easily go to their homes. And the public could have been consulted about this traffic change before implementing it.
Decision to approach the High Court:
So we have decided to approach the High Court to get relief from this problem.
The people of the area are already experiencing various problems including noise, crisis and encroachment and now they are alleging that the police have made new traffic changes without removing the encroachments. Some of them say that they are thinking of vacating their homes and moving to other places.
And they have said that we are not against development. But it is difficult to move here. They have no concern about the problem faced by the local residents. I can’t believe that we will complete the flyover work by December.
Also, as the police have set up barricades on both sides of Rangan Street, it is difficult to return home from the offices. If these street dwellers can go through the Rameswaram road on the side, the local residents inform them that vehicles are being driven all over the area.
Also, Ramanathan Street and Angan Street are crowded with heavy vehicles and local residents are lamenting that due to the change in traffic, they are unable to go even by auto.
