Rs. 1,700 plantation laborers pay hike gazetted suspension

The salary of plantation workers was Rs. The High Court has issued an interim order restraining the implementation of the Special Gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Industry regarding the increase to 1,700.

The High Court passed the order on the basis of a petition filed by some plantation companies in the High Court against the salary increase gazette.

The High Court allowed the petition to be heard and issued an interim order for the enforcement of the writ.

The salary of plantation workers was Rs. A special gazette notification (2385/14) confirming the increase to 1,700 was published on May 21.

This gazette notification was issued under the direction of the Minister of Industry and Foreign Employment under the signature of the Secretary of the Ministry.

As per the said special notification, the basic daily salary of plantation workers is Rs. 1,350 and daily special allowance based on productivity of Rs. 350 and the total daily salary is Rs. 1,700 had been increased.

Meanwhile, the minimum daily wage of plantation workers is Rs. It is to be noted that President Ranil Wickremesinghe had announced last May that it would be increased to 1700.
