Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, military rule in Bangladesh… what will happen next?

There were two types of reservation for women and differently-abled persons in Bangladesh. In this context, in 1971, the country’s government brought a 30 percent reservation for the heirs of the soldiers who participated in the independence struggle for the separation of Bangladesh as a separate country. This is the starting point of the problem. Many student bodies protested this reservation.

Reservation disputeThe Supreme Court confirmed the reservation while the matter was being heard alternately in the courts. This further intensified the intensity of the struggle. Reservation is a measure to improve the standard of living of the people. It becomes very important in terms of education and employment.

Students struggle

Then the question arises as to why there is so much difficulty in giving reservation to the heirs of freedom fighters in Bangladesh. According to the members of the student body, it has been more than 50 years since independence. The successors of the freedom fighters are the second and third generation. Apart from that, many people are using the reservation for heirs in illegal ways.

A field of violence

Currently, 30 percent say that they cannot accept the introduction of a new reservation in the context of high unemployment in Bangladesh. In this situation, more than 300 people have lost their lives, the economy has been affected, and the government machinery has broken down due to the students’ protest.

Sheikh Hasina resigns

The protesters entered the Prime Minister’s House and the Parliament and created a commotion. In this case, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who failed to suppress the students’ protest, resigned from her post and fled abroad. There is no confirmed information about his whereabouts. Military rule was established.

Interim Government

That is, the steps to set up an interim government under military supervision have been accelerated. In the next step, the army will step in to suppress the protest. There is no problem if the students themselves give up the struggle. It is said that severe measures will be taken if the army itself intervenes. Political observers have said that an interim government will be formed in Bangladesh by tomorrow evening.
