Lucknow: As the parliamentary elections were held in Uttar Pradesh today (March 7), a video of the police batoning Muslims has created a stir. It has been reported that the police beat them and chased them away claiming that their voter cards were invalid.
Parliamentary elections are going on in India in 7 phases. While two phases of polling have already been completed in states including Tamil Nadu, the third phase of polling has been completed today. This includes Uttar Pradesh.
In this case, it is said that during the elections held in Uttar Pradesh today, the Muslims who came to cast their votes were chased away by the police with batons. Also, the related video also spread rapidly on social media and caused a great shock.
It is reported in the media that the incident took place in Owari village which is a part of the Ashram parliamentary constituency of Uttar Pradesh. In other words, the police stopped the Muslims who came to vote and tried to send back their Aadhaar card and voter card as invalid. However, Muslims are arguing against this. Subsequently, the victims said that the police chased away the Muslims and beat them. It seems that even women and children are not spared from this beating.
An old Muslim man who was injured in the baton said, “When they saw us coming to vote, the police surrounded us. Then they saw our identity cards and said they were all fake. You can’t vote. But we tried to meet the election officials instead of turning back. So the police kicked us. “They beat us and chased us away. They also grabbed our beards and humiliated us,” he said.
