When summer comes, school vacations and going on picnics to cool places bring happiness on the one hand, but it can also have bad effects on our health. Kidney is the most vulnerable organ especially during summer.

This is because excessive dehydration occurs during hot weather. This puts pressure on the ureters that maintain fluid balance in our body and can lead to kidney-related problems like kidney stones, kidney failure, and urinary tract infections.

However, by following some tips, you can maintain kidney health and prevent kidney diseases.

Drink lots of water

Drinking plenty of fluids is the best way to protect your kidneys during hot weather. As the heat rises, our body sweats more to regulate its temperature. This causes dehydration and increases the chance of kidney stone formation.

So, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day. Also add water, lemon juice, buttermilk etc. It hydrates the body and helps maintain electrolyte balance in the body.

Extra attention to the skin

One should avoid going out unnecessarily during noon especially between 12 pm to 4 pm. Either way, use a 30 SPF sunscreen.

It protects the skin from harmful UV rays and can prevent excessive dehydration. Avoid tight clothes as much as possible and wear light colored cotton clothes. It helps keep the body cool.

Exercise regularly

Exercise regularly to protect not only kidney health but overall body health. It helps to control blood pressure in the body and increase blood flow.

However, excessive sweating during exercise can lead to dehydration. To avoid this, drink 350 ml of water before exercise. Then, drink enough water in between.

Avoid these types of foods

Many people drink a lot of soda, cold drinks and ice water to quench their thirst during hot summer. All of these can increase blood pressure and worsen kidney function.

So, avoid consuming too much salt and natural sugar. Likewise, avoid consuming animal protein. Instead, include plant proteins such as tofu, beans, and lentils.
