MEMU Train Service
MEMU train service between Chennai Beach and Tiruvannamalai has been started as a long time demand of the public. Since its inception, this train service has been very popular among passengers. A passenger train was running from Tiruvannamalai via Villupuram to Tambaram and this service was discontinued in 2007.
MEMU train extended to Tiruvannamalai
Subsequently, the work of converting the meter gauge track between Villupuram and Katpadi into a broad gauge railway was carried out. It is noteworthy that this train service has been stopped. Following this, the train service was extended from Chennai Beach to Tiruvannamalai from May 2.
Vellore Cantonment
In this regard, Southern Railway said that the passenger train that departs from Chennai beach at 6 pm every day will go to Vellore Cantonment and from there it will reach Kannamangalam, Pannathur, Setaram Pattu, Arani Road, Mathimangalam, Polur and reach Thiruvannamalai at 12.05 pm.
Passengers do not have toilet facilities in the train
It was also informed that the passenger train departing from Tiruvannamalai in the opposite direction will reach Chennai beach at 9 am the next day. The fare for traveling from Chennai beach to Tiruvannamalai is only Rs 50. This train takes about five hours to six hours to reach Thiruvannamalai. Passengers have also informed that there is no toilet facility for passengers in the train due to long distance travel.
Difficulty in traveling for women
From children to adults traveling in this train are suffering a lot due to lack of toilet facilities. The train departs from Chennai at 6 o’clock and reaches Tiruvannamalai at 12 o’clock. There is a problem with women traveling at night.
Passenger request
Therefore, there has been a demand to change the travel time of the train. After 17 years of operation of the train, the existence of such problems has created shock among the passengers.
