Srivilliputhur Nirmala Devi Petition to set aside Nirmala Devi verdict: High Court hearing!

Professor Nirmala Devi was convicted in the case of misleading the college students and filed a petition urging her to quash her conviction.

Nirmala Devi worked as a professor in a private college located in Aruppukkottai, Virudhunagar district.

The audio of him trying to mislead his students by mentioning the name of Madurai Kamarasar University has created a stir across Tamil Nadu.

Based on the complaint given by college secretary Ramasamy, 5 students, Aruppukkottai police registered a case and arrested Nirmala Devi on 16th April 2018.

The Tamil Nadu government ordered to transfer the case to the CBCIT. During further investigation, Kamarasar University assistant professor Murugan and research student Karuppasamy were arrested. A case has been registered against all 3 persons under 5 sections including Prevention of Violence Against Women Act, Prevention of Sex Industry Act and Information Technology Act.

The Madras High Court has ordered an investigation and verdict by April 30, when the case has been going on for six years. While the judgment was announced to be delivered on April 26, the judgment was postponed to April 29 as Nirmala Devi did not appear that day.

The verdict was delivered on April 29. Accordingly Murugan and Karuppasamy were acquitted of the case as the charges against them were not proved. Nirmala Devi was declared guilty.

The sentencing details were announced on April 30. Accordingly, an order was issued imposing a 10-year jail term and a fine of Rs.2.45 lakh.

In this case, Nirla Devi has filed an appeal in the High Court branch seeking to quash the case and seeking interim bail until then.
