Officials have informed that the census of stray dogs will be started in Chennai Corporation in July.

Rabies disease
In Chennai, reports say that more than 5 people die of rabies every year. More than 100 people are being vaccinated against rabies after being bitten by dogs.

Census of Stray Dogs
As a result, measures are being taken by the Chennai Corporation to conduct a survey of stray dogs and control their number. Accordingly, it has been informed that the survey of stray dogs in the areas under the Chennai Municipal Corporation will begin in July.

Preparatory work
Veterinary officers are engaged in preparatory work for this. The Corporation plans to carry out these works in collaboration with the World Livestock Services Organization, a non-governmental organization.

Vaccination
The survey work is planned to be completed before monsoon. An estimated 93,000 stray dogs were vaccinated last year. This number is expected to increase to over one lakh by this year.
