To enlighten the public about the plight of plantation workers, a street drama was staged yesterday (14) in Hutton by the students of Thalawakalai School/Practical College.
Commenting on this, the principal of the school, Dominic Chandanam,
He said that even though 200 years have passed since the plantation workers arrived in Sri Lanka, some of their families are still locked up in prisons.
Due to the current economic crisis, plantation workers are facing various difficulties and many plantation children are suspending their education and going to outside areas like Colombo for work in order to boost their family’s economy. The principal of the school further informed that these street dramas were staged to make the people aware of this.
