The strike of customs officials was called off

– Try to complete overdue tasks by the end of the week

The Sri Lankan Customs Unions have decided to call off their strike following discussions with Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siambalapitiya.

On the intervention of the President and Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siambalapitiya, the Customs Union Federation has decided to immediately suspend the trade union action initiated by the Sukayena Leave Report.

According to this, the Director General of Customs has directed all the officers to carry out all customs operations as usual with immediate effect.

Accordingly, at present, all efforts are being made to complete the work delayed during the union action by the end of the week.

Trade unions including the Customs Officers Association had decided to go on strike yesterday (03) and today (04) declaring a ‘healthy holiday’ in protest against the lack of satisfactory response to their demands from the authorities.

It is to be noted that the customs officers have been on a strike for two days as they have not been able to find any necessary solutions to their demands despite several negotiations with the authorities.
