Activists celebrated the 47th birthday of Vaigai Express by cutting a cake at Madurai railway station.

Vaigai Express is an important train service for the commuters of southern districts including Madurai. Waikai Express is celebrating its 47th birthday today. In view of this, train enthusiasts celebrated by cutting a cake in front of the Vaigai Express train engine on the 4th platform of Madurai railway station.
High speed train
On August 15, 1977, the day time express train Vaigai Express was introduced from Madurai to Chennai. As this train was run to Chennai during the day time, the merchants and public of the southern district benefited a lot.
Day train
Vaigai Express departs from Madurai at 6.40 am and reaches at 2.20 pm. That means it will reach Chennai in 7.20 hours. Similarly, Chennai (12635) will depart at 1.50 pm and reach Madurai at 9.15 pm. As both the routes are daytime trains, Vaigai Express is useful for Southern District commuters.
Travel time
The travel time of the Waikai Express train from 7.50 hours has been reduced by 35 minutes in the last decade. Departed at 7.10 am and reached Chennai at 2.30 pm which was 5 minutes earlier at 2.25 pm.
47th birthday party
In this situation, the 47th birthday of Vaigai Express today was celebrated by cutting a cake in front of the engine of the Vaigai Express on the 4th platform of Madurai railway junction.
Commemorative gifts were given to the railway staff to appreciate the technical staff working on the Waikai Express train.
