Vote for anti-liquor, anti-cigarettes – oneindias

The Alcohol and Drug Information Center has made a request to the public to identify candidates who are active against alcohol and cigarettes in the presidential election and make them win.

It has also demanded that political parties and candidates mention the policy against the activities of alcohol manufacturing companies, tobacco manufacturing companies and those who are trying to legalize cannabis in their election manifestos.

The representatives of the Alcohol and Drug Information Center made this request while speaking at a media conference held at the Jaffna Media Center.

In addition,

Twenty thousand people die every year and sixty people die in our country due to cigarette smoking.

40 people die every day due to alcohol consumption.

In such a situation, the people should elect people as their representatives who will act to stop the policies that promote them.

Many people have a misconception that the government is supported by taxes on alcohol and cigarettes. In fact, the health and economic costs of cigarette and alcohol use are far greater.

If we take the cigarettes sold in our country, 92 percent of the company’s shares are owned by British and American superpowers. As a result, a large amount of dollars leave the country.

Rumors of increase in leakages due to increase in price of liquor are false.

People need to identify exactly which politicians are connected with drug dealers, cigarette and liquor companies.

The public should use this good opportunity to elect the best leader to create a living environment in which our children will not be exposed to drugs and alcohol cigarettes in the future – he said.

Alcohol and Drug Information Center’s Ceresta program. Officer A.C. Rakim, Program Officer Chelathurai Nidarsana, North Region Coordinator Arumugam Kodeeswaran attended the media meeting and expressed their opinion.
