The Cabinet has accepted the matter presented by the Minister of Fisheries in the Cabinet meeting held today on Tuesday under the chairmanship of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
“Dr. Archuna Ramanathan, who was appointed as the Medical Superintendent of the Savagacherry Adarsh Hospital last June, had identified the administrative irregularities and deficiencies there and took prompt steps to correct them.
Based on that, Department of Gynecology, Chandra Care Unit, I.C.U. The 3-storied building set up to operate the unit had not been used for the last 14 years and the surgical equipments worth 20 million rupees donated by the donor were not being used. and has operated the maternity unit.
Also, all the patients for whom lunar treatment should be done are Jaffa. Efforts were also being made to run a surgical unit while being sent to a teaching hospital.
Similarly, while the bodies of those who lost their lives in the said hospital were sent to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examination, efforts have been made by Medical Superintendent Archuna to carry it out at Savagacherry Aadar Hospital and prevent the unnecessary inconvenience caused to the general public.
Also, medicines were left on the floor without proper storage arrangements and 22 doctors were on duty in the said hospital and most of them were only on duty for 10 days in a month.
The forces which disliked the efforts made by the Medical Superintendent to remedy such various disorders and defects, created unnecessary confusion there.
Knowing all this, the general public launched a massive protest.
“Therefore, a high-level committee should be set up and a fair investigation should be conducted and all those who acted irresponsibly should be punished by law,” Minister Douglas Devananda stressed in the cabinet.
